Homecoming festivities at Washington commence tonight for the football team when they have a chance to right the ship to start district play with a week five matchup against Grinnell.

The Demons will try to put the last two weeks behind them after dropping non-district showdowns with Clear Creek-Amana 31-6 and Fort Madison 37-7. The orange and black sit at 2-2 with much of their success coming on the ground with 782 rushing yards led by Tayven Stuart with 435 and seven touchdowns. The last two games the offense has averaged just 150 total yards. The defense will look to shore things up against a Tiger team that has struggled for 41 points all season. They sit at 1-3 after a tough non-district schedule where they fell to North Polk, Harlan, and Benton Community. Brady Coffman has reached pay dirt twice and Kinnick Johnson is the featured back with 195 rushing yards on 59 carries. Tryston Stark paces the defense with 23.5 tackles.

Demon Head Coach Nick Ehret tells KCII Sports Grinnell’s record is not indicative of their team. “They have had some very tough games and are battle tested. They were runner-up in the district last season and return the lineman of the year that is a load on both sides of the ball. They are perfectly capable of putting points on the board and defensively they fly around. It is a very tough matchup to open districts.”

This game decided the two seed in class 3A district five last year with Grinnell handling a 35-14 affair.

The homecoming clash begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Washington. Listen live on FM 106.1 KCII with the Football Friday Preview Show beginning at 6 p.m. and we will take over from Case Field at 7 p.m.
