The Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team and the Snake Pit claimed another victim Friday night when SK upset No. 2 ranked in Class 1A and previously unbeaten Pella Christian 15-13. The Cobras took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when Cole Clarahan reached the end zone on the first of his two rushing touchdowns on the day. Pella Christian found the equalizer on an Isaac Kacmarynski five yard quarterback power to tie the game at six early in the second. SK mounted a scoring drive in the second frame that ended with a 32-yard Caden Clarahan field goal to give the Snakes a 9-6 advantage going to the break.
Out of the half, Sigourney-Keota scored the takeaway when Isaac Bruns recovered an Eagle fumble on the opening kickoff. That would lead to a Cobra march, capped by a three yard Cole Clarahan scoring run to make it 15-6 SK late in the third. The Eagles would rally, midway through the fourth Kacmarynski connected with Trevor Veenstra on a 33-yard touchdown pass to pull PC within 15-13. As time wound down, Pella Christian would have the ball one final time with a chance to win the game, but Reid Molyneux slammed the door on the Eagles with a fourth down tackle of Benny Schirz and the celebration at the Snake Pit was on.
SK finished with 252 total yards on the night, all on the ground. Cole Clarahan had 26 carries and 94 yards to go with his two touchdowns. Sawyer Stout finished with 17 rushes for 88 yards and Bruns had 12 touches for 75 yards. Jack Clarahan led the SK defense with six and a half tackles. Bruns added a fumble recovery on special teams. SK is now 3-2, winners of three straight, standing at 2-0 in district with a trip to Eldon next week to take on Cardinal.
