At the September 22nd Washington Board of Health meeting during the Environmental Health Report, the board reviewed a pair of dog bite incidents. One incident happened in Crawfordsville with a dog jumping into a neighbor’s yard, and the other was a provoked attack when a child grabbed a dog’s tail in rural Washington County. Neither of the dogs were up to date on their rabies shots, and each had to be quarantined for 10-days before they could be returned to their owners.

Jason Taylor, a member of the Washington Board of Health, urged pet owners to keep their pets updated on their shots during the meeting. “The biggest thing here is that the Rabies shot is only a $30 shot, and once you get past the first year, it’s just a matter of keeping it updated every three years. I know that I receive bills from places where it’s $400 to house the pet for those ten days.”

The next Washington Board of Health meeting will be Thursday, October 27th, at noon on the fifth floor of the Federation Bank Building in Washington.
