Badly needing wins to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Washington Demon football team seeks an upset tonight to snap a three game losing skid when they travel to face No. 9 Solon in a district showdown.

The Demons sit at 2-3 and opened district play last week with a heartbreaking 28-21 homecoming loss to Grinnell where the Tigers scored in the final minute of the game. The offense put up 726 total yards in the first two games and they will try to find that success once again after having just 494 since. They will have to be at their best against a Spartan defense that surrenders just 13 points a game with their only losses coming to ranked Williamsburg and Mount Vernon. They are 3-2 and started up league play with a 36-0 pounding of West Burlington. Brett White has compiled 47 tackles for a defense that has intercepted opponents seven times. The junior also has 497 rushing yards with seven house calls while senior quarterback Blake Timmons has completed 50% of his passes for 551 yards and two touchdowns.

Head Coach of the Demons Nick Ehret tells KCII Sports the strong tradition of the Spartans is not phasing his boys. “They are a great team, but they are teenagers just like our team is. Sometimes programs like that just the name gives them an advantage, but they are prone to mistakes just like we are. It always just comes down to who is going to be more physical and who is going to execute.”

Washington will try to buck the trend in the series having lost six of the last seven meetings including a 44-21 defeat last fall.

The week six road clash begins at 7:30 p.m. in Solon. Tune into FM 106.1 KCII starting at 6 p.m. for the Football Friday Preview Show and we will take over from Spartan Stadium at 7 p.m.
