It’s now your chance to learn how to cook in a brand-new, cutting-edge kitchen.

The Mid-Prairie Community School District’s culinary club is now offering cooking classes. The club and classes are open to any adult interested in learning how to cook and are welcome to participate; each session is limited to 12 people with this first session already full.

Mid-Prairie created the program after writing a grant that included the addition of a new kitchen. Glenda Seward, Culinary instructor in the FCS Department, told KCII news that the classes had been planned since 2016 , but had been postponed due to COVID and other factors. However, Seward and other members felt the time had come to finally implement the classes, telling KCII news, “We were wanting it to be wider spread than just reaching the student population; so reaching the community on a wider scale.”

Each session will cover a variety of topics. October’s, will focus on soup and bread bowls. In December, a holiday theme is expected, followed by a pastry theme in February, and an April theme has yet to be determined.

Advertisements for the December session and future sessions will be posted later. From there you can go to the Mid-Prairie School website, mphawks.org, to sign up for classes and pay the fee that comes with each session; the fee will vary depending on the materials provided.
