Iowan Alexis Taylor was announced as President Biden’s nominee to be undersecretary of agriculture for trade and foreign agricultural affairs at the Department of Agriculture. During her September testimony before the Senate Agriculture Committee, Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley praised the nomination during the hearing, saying that he had known Taylor and her family for many years and was pleased with the nomination.

Grassley spoke with KCII Radio about Taylor’s qualifications for the position. “She is very much the product of a family farm that’s been around for over 160 years. She has been involved in a lot of areas democratic administrations previously dealing with agricultural problems. She has also served for many years as a member of the USDA, and she is now a commissioner of agriculture in Oregon, and so I think she is just an outstanding person.”

Grassley will have a debate with his Democratic opponent in this year’s election, Michael Franken, tomorrow as part of the Iowa Press program on PBS and will be live streamed on Iowa PBS’s YouTube and Facebook page.
