The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team is back in River Valley Conference action tonight when they travel to Iowa City to take on the rival Regina Regals. The Hawks enter play ranked No. 11 in Class 3A in this week’s poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Mid-Prairie has a 16-6 overall record, 4-1 in the RVC South, and are winners of eight of their last nine matches, including a tournament title at New London Saturday and a road sweep of Independence Monday. The Hawks are led on the year by sophomore Dakota Mitchell’s 353 digs, fourth in Class 3A, senior Landry Pacha’s 228 assists and 151 kills each seventh in the River Valley Conference. Her 27 aces are sixth. Senior Ella Groenewold’s 55 blocks are best on the team and in the RVC.

Iowa City Regina enters with a 13-12 mark, 3-3 in the South. They took the floor last on September 27th in a four set loss at Lisbon. Junior Sydney Wagner leads the Regals with 593 assists, ninth in Class 2A. Freshman Reese Naeve has a team best 318 kills, seventh in Class 2A. Defensively, sophomore Laci Chambliss has 242 digs, sixth in the RVC and at the net, freshman Kiley Devery’s 51 blocks are second in the River Valley. Sophomore Caitlin Martin has a team high 15 aces. Regina has won 22 of the last 26 in the series but the Hawks took both matches from the Regals a season ago in sweeps. Action starts tonight at 7:15p.m. at Regina High School.
