lone-tree-3

The Lone Tree Lions football team will look to stop a skid when they visit New London Friday night. Lone Tree has dropped back-to-back games after a 3-game win streak, falling to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in district play. Getting to a playoff spot as either the third-place team in District 6 or one of the two state-wide wild cards is still possible, but the Lions need to win out. They will, as always, lean on starting quarterback Ethan Bockelman. The junior has passed for almost 700 yards and 10 touchdowns while also leading the team with almost 740 rushing yards and nine TDs. Junior Jaden Sanchez and freshman Emmett Burke have been the top targets, combining for 345 yards and seven touchdowns receiving. Senior Drew Gauley is also coming off his best game of the season last week, hauling in six catches for 170 yards and a pair of scores.

Bockelman and senior Joe Boxwell are the leading tacklers for the Lone Tree defense, while senior Andrew Hotz has been solid on the defensive line with seven tackles for loss and two sacks. The Lions will need to slow down a explosive New London offense. The Tigers average 42-and-a-half points per game and have scored at least 50 points in four of their last five games, all wins. Senior running back Blaise Porter can do it all, piling up 685 total yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns, while fellow senior Boden Pickle has rushed for a team-high 493 yards and scored seven times.

New London has won three of the last four matchups. Lone Tree looks for its second road victory of the season tomorrow evening starting at 7.
