It’s Homecoming week for the Sigourney-Keota Cobras. All of the activities have led up to tonight’s pivotal football contest with the Central Decatur Cardinals for the district lead. The Cobras come into tonight’s matchup with a 4-2 overall record, winners of four straight and unbeaten at 3-0 in district. They are receiving votes in this week’s Class 1A poll from the Associated Press. Last Friday, they dismantled Cardinal 56-3 behind 317 total yards, 262 rushing, three touchdowns on the ground from Cole Clarahan and one each from Reid Molyneux, Cole Kindred, Isaac Bruns and Sawyer Stout. Jake Moore added a pick six. This year, the Cobras score 30 points per game and give up 16. They have outscored their district opponents 106 to 29. SK averages 315 yards per game, 265 on the ground. Individual leaders include Cole Clarahan with 113 carries 684 yards and 10 touchdowns in the run game. Kindred has four rushing scores and Bruns three. Stout is 11 of 24 in the pass game for 244 yards, four touchdowns and a pair of picks. Top targets Kindred and Clay Morse have four grabs each for a total of 156 yards and a touchdown apiece. Aidan Anderson has caught two touchdowns. Jack Clarahan leads the defense with 31 tackles, five and a half for loss. The Snakes have 12 takeaways this year, Evan Vittetoe leads with two fumble recoveries and Kale Clarahan with two interceptions.
Central Decatur is also 4-2 this year and a matching 3-0 in district. They shut out Van Buren last week 48-0. They outgained the Warriors 403 to 124 including 201-57 on the ground. Quarterback Sam Boothe threw for 202 yards on 10 of 18 with a pair of touchdowns to Kale Rockhold. Champ Walker had 20 carries for 199 yards and five scores. On the season, the Cardinals are scoring 36 per game and giving up 16, averaging 354 yards per night, 195 through the air. Individually, they are led by Boothe in the pass game at 70 of 135 for 1,177 yards, nine touchdowns and three picks. His favorite target is Jack Scrivner with 29 catches, 608 yards and three scores. On the ground, Walker has 112 carries for 822 yards and 19 touchdowns. Defensively, Rockhold has 43 stops, eight and a half for loss with five sacks. The Cardinals have forced 10 turnovers this year. These two teams met a season ago with SK taking a 37-9 win in Leon. The Sigourney-Keota Homecoming game kicks off tonight at 7p.m. at the Snake Pit at Sigourney High School.
