The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves volleyball team continued their march to a conference championship with a straight-sets victory over Pekin Thursday evening. WMU won the first two sets 25-12 and 25-8 before fending off Pekin in the third set 25-21.
Senior setter Keely Malone made big plays on offense, finishing with five kills, five aces and 27 assists. Senior middle hitter Bradie Buffington had nine kills, six digs and a block. Senior outside Melina Oepping added six kills, an ace and 10 digs.
Winfield-Mount Union improves to 21-9 overall and remains a perfect 7-0 in conference play. The Wolves have clinched at least a share of the Super Conference North division title and can win the league outright by defeating Wapello in their regular-season finale Tuesday night.
