The Columbus Community Wildcat football team continued their unbeaten season by cruising past North Cedar 57-0 this past Friday. Columbus basically ended the game before it started, leading 36-0 after a quarter of play. The Wildcat defense dominated, allowing North Cedar to gain a measly 53 total yards of offense and a net of negative rushing yardage. Junior defensive lineman Russell Coil recorded two sacks, while senior Jeff Hoback and freshman Rey Resendez-Rodriguez each had an interception.
On offense, Columbus rushed for 350 yards despite no single player having more than five carries and 70 yards gained. Hoback led the team with five rushes for 73 yards and a touchdown, while junior Kaden Amigon had both a rushing and a kick return TD. Junior Trenton Hoback ran for 64 yards and scored on both of his carries, while senior Triston Miller added two rushing TDs. The sixth-ranked-in-A-football Wildcats are now 7-0, but there is one more prize to wrap up before the postseason. The one seed in District 5 is on the line this Friday night when Columbus hosts #10 Alburnett.
