
The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves completed the volleyball season with a conference championship, defeating Wapello in straight sets last night to win the Super Conference North title. WMU took a close pair of opening sets at Wapello, 25-22 and 25-23, before pulling away to win the third set 25-12.
The Wolves’ attack was led by senior Melina Oepping with 10 kills. Oepping also had nine digs and a block. Senior middle hitter Bradie Buffington finished with nine kills, two aces and a block, while junior middle Lily Freeman had a strong night as well with five kills and four blocks.
Winfield-Mount Union goes unbeaten in conference play and finishes the regular season with a 22-9 record overall. The Wolves draw the number-four seed in 1A Region 8 and will get to host in the first round of regionals Monday night, as WMU will entertain Twin Cedars.
