The regular season finale is ahead Friday for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team when they return to Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman to meet the Davis County Mustangs in a Class 2A District 6 contest. The Golden Hawks come into the game at 4-3 on the year, 2-2 in district, after a 30-14 loss at Centerville a week ago. They were outgained 374 to 334 in the game including 320 to 146 on the ground and 172 to 97 after half. Collin Miller was 11 of 23 throwing for 188 yards two touchdowns and two interceptions. His scoring throws both went to Cain Brown who hauled in six passes total for 123 yards. Braden Hartley finished with 22 carries for 120 yards. Those two had 10 tackles each. This year, the Hawks are averaging 26 points per game and giving up 22 with 281 yards of offense each game, 195 on the ground. Individually, the Golden Hawks are led by Hartley with 161 carries for 987 yards and 11 touchdowns. Through the air, Miller is 34 of 88 for 557 yards, six touchdowns and eight picks. Brown is his top target with 20 catches for 362 yards and four scores. Brown also leads the defense with 41 and a half tackles and four interceptions.

Davis County is 3-4 this year, 1-3 in district play after a 77-8 loss to Williamsburg  last week where they trailed 56-8 at half and were outgained 463 to 105 in total yards including 284-31 on the ground. Will Carter was six of 12 passing for 74 yards and a touchdown to Tayden Bish. They also committed four turnovers. This year the Mustangs are scoring 17 points per game and giving up 37 while posting 269 yards of offense per night, 139 on the ground. Carter has 1,344 all-purpose yards including 812 through the air on 57 of 122 passing for eight touchdowns and five interceptions. His top yardage target is Bish with 17 grabs for 344 yards and three touchdowns. Carter is also the leader on the ground with 121 carries 532 yards and six scores. Tyler Doyle has 37 tackles to lead the defense. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about what he saw from his team last week and the keys against Davis County. “Last week I thought we played hard and we competed. There were some things on both sides of the ball that we did well. I thought a couple of individuals played well. Dylan Henry had a good game, Collin (Miller) threw the ball well. We weren’t able to get them off the field and we weren’t able to sustain drives ourselves, and that inconsistency was the issue for most of the game. For us tonight, we have to finish the district. (Davis County) is a team that has struggled a little bit but played some teams fairly well. We just have to do our job and play good football. Not worry about next week, the playoffs. I think you need a PhD to figure out who we could play there are so many scenarios anyway. We’re just think to be able to get in and play who we play. Friday, we have to run the football. We have to tackle better than we did last week. Read our keys on defense and make plays.”

The Golden Hawks own a 6-2 all-time advantage in the series and have won five straight including a 49-32 win in Bloomfield a season ago.
