The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves will need a win and some help to advance to the playoffs as they prepare to host English Valleys tonight in their final game of the football regular season. WMU has fallen to 5-3 and is hoping to grab one of the state’s two at-large bids to reach the 8-player postseason. So the first priority for the Wolves is getting back to how they played in a three-game win streak prior to last week’s defeat against WACO.

Star junior tailback Cam Buffington was mostly neutralized in the loss, so he’ll look to return to the form that has yielded over 1,000 yards rushing and 20 total touchdowns. Junior Abram Edwards has also been a big-play threat, rushing for 330 yards and catching over 300 yards of passes while scoring 13 total TDs.

Buffington has also been the star of the Wolves’ defense, with team highs of 72 tackles and three interceptions. Edwards wrecks havoc for the opponent with 11 tackles for loss and six-and-a-half sacks. Both will be keyed in on English Valleys senior Treyton Shaw, who is 38 yards away from 1,000 on the ground and leads the Bears defense with five-and-a-half sacks.

English Valleys has won back-to-back games since starting the season 0-5. Winfield-Mount Union will look to quell that momentum and slingshot themselves into the postseason starting at 7 this evening.
