The Washington Police Department arrested forty-two-year-old John Paul Nganga on a Washington County Warrant for Fraudulent Practices Second Degree, a Class D Felony. In June of 2022, the Washington Police Department was contacted by the Cedar Rapids Police Department concerning a therapist who had submitted fraudulent bills through the Grace C. Mae Advocacy Center.

Officers then spoke with the director of the Center, who indicated Nganga was a therapist with the company and primarily billed through the Washington County Office. Upon further investigation, the center noticed questionable billing practices involving Nganga. He was interviewed by the director and a second employee and admitted to submitting false claims.

The Grace C. Mae Advocacy Center identified sixty-three fraudulently submitted claims from January 5th, 2022, to April 29th, 2022. The total value of the fraudulently submitted claims was $4,814.20.

Nganga was transported to the Washington County Jail and was issued a $5,000 cash-only bond, which was posted on Thursday at 1:05 pm. The initial hearing date for Nganga has been set for October 20th at 9:00 am at the Washington County Courthouse. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
