The No. 11 in Class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team finished the regular season Saturday with a big day, taking the runner-up spot at the Knoxville tournament. Mid-Prairie rolled through pool play, downing Albia 21-16 and 21-19, beating No. 6 in Class 3A Union La Porte City 14-21, 24-22 and 18-16 and topping No. 10 in Class 1A Holy Trinity Catholic 21-8, 17-21 and 15-4. In the semifinals, the Hawks swept through Southeast Warren 21-14 and 21-18, but were upended in the championship match by Union who got their revenge by scores of 17-21 and 19-21.
On the day, Mid-Prairie was led by senior Landry Pacha with 50 assists and 34 kills. Freshman Jovi Evans finished with 54 digs, 48 assists and 30 kills. Sophomore Dakota Mitchell had 62 digs and sophomore Callie Huber 12 aces. Mid-Prairie is now 25-10 and opens the regional tournament tonight at home against the rival Washington Demons.
