The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team is in the middle of one of the most successful seasons in recent program history and has been recognized by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 11 in the final Class 3A poll of the season. This is the second straight week the Hawks have been in this position. Mid-Prairie closed the regular season on a roll, winning two of three matches at Wilton Thursday to take home runner-up honors at the River Valley Conference Tournament, finishing second at Saturday’s Knoxville tourney where they put together a 4-1 day that included victories over No. 8 in Class 3A Union, La Porte City and No. 9 in Class 1A Holy Trinity Catholic. Along with a three set sweep to open the playoffs Monday at home over the rival Washington Demons.
The Golden Hawks rank in the top 10 in 3A with 1,669 digs, fourth most, 240 aces, sixth most, 876 assists, eighth most, 950 kills, ninth most, and 245 blocks, 10th most. Mid-Prairie will next be in action Wednesday when they host Davis County in the regional semifinals. Action starts at 7p.m. at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
