The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves continued a strong season by opening the volleyball playoffs in the same fashion, dispatching of Twin Cedars in straight sets in the first round of the Class 1A Region 8 tournament yesterday. WMU took the first set 25-13 and was off and running from there, winning the next two sets 25-11 and 25-12.

Senior outside hitter Melina Oepping led the Wolves’ attack with 13 kills and added seven digs and a block. Senior middle hitter Bradie Buffington finished with nine kills and a team-high four blocks. Senior libero Keetyn Townsley made a difference on the back row with team highs of six aces and 17 digs, while senior setter Keely Malone mixed in three kills, three digs and a block to the 23 assists she handed out.

Fourth-seeded Winfield-Mount Union improves to 23-9 with the victory. The postseason continues for WMU when the Wolves host Wapello tomorrow night in the 1A Region 8 quarterfinals.
