The Sigourney Savages continued an excellent high school volleyball season by sweeping Seymour in the first round of the Class 1A Region 8 tournament Tuesday evening. Sigourney took the opening set 25-12 on their home floor and was well on their way to a straight-sets victory, adding 25-15 and 25-10 wins to take their fourth of the last five matches.
Sophomore Josephine Moore continued her breakout season by putting up a team-high 10 kills and adding 11 digs and an ace. Junior Amiya Smallwood finished with nine kills, an ace and a block. Senior setter Brookelyn Hemsley added two kills, an ace and eight digs to the 23 assists she dished out, while sophomore Reagan Clarahan flanked the front row with four kills and two blocks.
Sigourney improves to 23-7. The Savages move on to the 1A Region 8 quarterfinals tonight, where they will visit Holy Trinity Catholic.
