Classes at Columbus High School were canceled Monday, October 17, following a break-in early that morning. A student enrolled at the school is currently in custody as charges are being filed.
The break-in resulted in vandalism to six classrooms and three other commons or office areas. Several broken windows and trophy cases were reported, with additional vandalism to an entrance area, network cables, and other items located around the building.
While there is no ongoing threat suspected, Columbus High School was forced to close Monday for cleanup and repairs. Classes resumed Tuesday, October 18, with a crisis team on site to support students and staff.
KCII will have more information as it becomes available.
