Fall colors across the state are hitting their peak, but time to enjoy the scenery is running out.
Northeast Iowa has been treated to excellent fall colors, with Aspens turning vibrant golden yellow. Oaks have turned bronze and red, while Sugar Maples are providing additional orange, yellow and red.
The north central and northwest part of the state are highlighted by Red Oaks and Maples showing red. Yellows from Bitternut Hickory, Hackberries, Elms, and Silver Maples are still prominent despite trees beginning to lose their leaves.
Central Iowa is in peak color viewing. With a little green in the landscape, Maples are displaying terrific colors. Cold temperatures and wind in the forecast are expected to strip more leaves this week.
Due to cold nights and sunny days, the fall color season is moving along in southeast Iowa with most areas reaching peak colors this week. The landscape is filled with yellows. Cottonwoods are turning gold as well. Oaks have begun to show some color and will change quickly. Fall colors are expected to be good for the next two weeks.
