The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk cross country teams compete tonight for a bid to the state meet in Fort Dodge at the Class 2A state qualifier meet at Pella Christian. Mid-Prairie has been off since the River Valley Conference meet last week where the Golden Hawk girls finished runner-up with a team score of 69 points, led by a 1-2 punch at the top with Danielle Hostetler claiming her third consecutive individual RVC crown and Abby Fleming taking runner-up honors. The Hawks are ranked No. 2 in this week’s Class 2A poll from the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association. Mid-Prairie has three ranked runners in their lineup with Hostetler in the top spot as she has been all season, Fleming in the top 10 at No. 9 and Phoebe Shetler No. 23.

The Golden Hawk boys were sixth in the team race at the RVC Championship meet last week with 138 points. Preston Yutzy made the elite all-conference team, leading the Hawks with an eighth place individual finish. The Golden Hawk boys are ranked No. 13 as a team.

Joining Mid-Prairie at today’s meet are the Albia boys and their No. 6 ranked girls, Cardinal, Centerville, Central Lee, the No. 3 Danville boys, Davis County, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck, I-35, Prairie City Monroe, the No. 15 Union, La Porte City girls and their boys, Van Buren, West Marshall and the home No. 9 Eagle boys and their No. 12 girls. There are seven total ranked teams in the field with 13 ranked individuals. Action starts tonight at 4p.m. and continues into the evening in Pella.
