The No. 11 in Class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team handled business Wednesday night in the Class 3A Regional Semifinals against visiting Davis County for their second win of the postseason. The Hawks took the match in straight sets by scores of 28-26, 25-14, and 25-20. After trailing by five late in the first set, the Golden Hawks rallied to win and rode that momentum to the sweep. Statistically, Mid-Prairie was led by 20 assists and eight kills for Landry Pacha, 17 assists, 13 digs and eight kills for Jovi Evans, nine kills each for Ella Groenewold and Paige Safly and 17 digs for Dakota Mitchell. After the match Pacha, Evans and Mitchell talked about the first set rally and win. “We just knew we needed to finish it. We figured it out finally and everything just clicked. It really made a statement early on, coming back, and dominating the last couple of points. Whew! The first set was close but it was fun. It gave us so much hype, we were just ready to go! It’s just so exciting, we haven’t done this in a really long time. Mid-Prairie volleyball is back! This felt so good. We’re so happy for our seniors. Our team played amazing. We have been playing good all year long. We love having all of the fans here. it makes it so much more fun and exciting. It pushes us to play better.”
The win moves Mid-Prairie to 27-11 on the season and one win away from the program’s first state tournament appearance since 2004. The Golden Hawks will play for the bid to state Tuesday at No. 2 Davenport Assumption.
