A program has been established to help low-income Iowa residents pay for part of their heating costs this winter. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program aims to secure heating for families in need as the weather turns cold.

Applications are currently being accepted for elderly residents ages 60 and over. All other residents can apply, beginning November 1. All applications will be received until April 30 of next year.

Assistance is based on household income, household size, type of fuel, and type of housing. Upon application, proof of income, proof of social security for all household members, most recent heating bill, and most recent electric bill must be provided. Either a copy of the most recent federal income tax return, or check stubs for the 30-day period preceding the date of application must be presented as well.
