The Highland Huskies saw their volleyball season come to an end last night, but not without putting up a good fight in a four-set loss to Central City in the Class 1A Region 7 quarterfinals. Highland won the first set on the road 25-21 to grab some early momentum, but Central City seized it right back with a 25-13 victory in the second set, and they handled business from there by winning the last two sets 25-12 and 25-15.

Despite the loss, Husky junior hitter Sarah Burton notched her second double-double of the postseason. The reigning JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week had team highs of 10 kills and 22 digs. Sophomore Adeline Krotz was also active on the defensive side with 12 digs and three blocks. Senior setter MyLei Smith finished with 17 assists, an ace, 10 digs and a block, but it wasn’t enough to give the Huskies their sixth win in the last nine matches. Instead, Highland ends the year with a record of 13-15 and will graduate five seniors: Smith, Avery Pierson, Adelynn Kleopfer, Lillee Boshart and Jessica Kraus.
