The Iowa Department of Transportation has begun road work on the four-lane section of East Washington St. in Washington. According to Washington City Administrator Deanna McCusker, the road work is for basic maintenance to repair patches on the roadway. No time frame was able to be provided for how long these repairs will last.
The construction caught some members of the Washington City Council off-guard, as councilwoman Bethany Glinsmann brought up at Tuesday’s city council meeting. “I did get several questions about the roadwork going on, and I saw your (Mayor Rosien’s) comment online that this was all state work. I was wondering if we could provide feedback to IDOT about providing notice, even providing signs on the road to tell people that these lanes are going to be closed in the future seems like it would be common practice.”
City Administrator McCusker also noted that when IDOT had conducted repairs earlier in the year on the east side of Washington, that notification was not provided. Contact the Iowa Department of Transportation for more questions regarding the ongoing construction on East Washington Street.
