The Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team opens the Class 1A playoffs tonight when they host Sumner-Fredericksburg. SK is 6-2 on the year, a perfect 5-0 in district play, winners of six straight to claim the Class 1A District 6 title. The Cobras are receiving votes in this week’s Associated Press poll. The Snakes finished their perfect run through district last week with a 69-20 win over Van Buren in Keosauqua. Against the Warriors, Cole Clarahan had three rushing touchdowns, Reid Molyeneux two, and Jake Moore, Kale Clarahan and Cole Kindred one each. Molyneux, Cole Clarahan and Jake Moore each rushed for 100 yards. Sawyer Stout threw for 60 yards and a touchdown to Kindred. Aidan Anderson led the defense with an interception. On the season, SK scores 38 points per game and gives up 20, putting up 350 yards per game on offense, 300 on the ground. Individually, the Cobras are led by Cole Clarahan rushing with 143 carries for 968 yards and 17 touchdowns. Stout is 18 of 32 through the air for 351 yards, seven touchdowns and a pair of picks. Top receiver is Kindred with eight grabs, 150 yards and three scores. Jack Clarahan has a team best 41 tackles. Evan Vittetoe, Kale Clarahan and Moore each have two takeaways.

Sumner-Fredericksburg is 4-4 this season, they finished in fourth place in Class 1A District 4 with a 2-3 mark. They closed the regular season last week with a 35-7 loss at Waterloo Columbus. The Cougars score 23 per game and give up 15. They post 257 yards per game on offense, 171 on the ground. Individually, they are led by Kade Mitchell with 90 carries, 461 yards and six touchdowns. In the pass game, Davis Van Sickle is 48 of 92 for 679 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. His top target is Trace Meyer with 14 grabs, 199 yards and a touchdown. Meyer also has a team best 46 tackles. The Cougars have 16 takeaways as a team. The winner of this contest advances to the second round of the 1A playoffs next Friday. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. at the Snake Pit at Sigourney High School.
