The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves have made it to the 8-player football postseason, but their first test is as tough as they come: a road trip to face number-three-ranked Don Bosco in Gilbertville tonight.

6-3 WMU reached the playoffs by winning four of their last five games and leaning on a dynamic duo of stars. Junior Cam Buffington has continued another outstanding season with 1,279 rushing yards and 28 total offensive touchdowns. Fellow junior Abram Edwards leads the Wolves with 25 receptions for 337 yards and four TDs while also rushing for 334 yards and nine scores. Buffington leads the defense with 86 tackles and three interceptions, while Edwards brings the heat in the opposing backfield with 11 tackles for loss and six-and-a-half sacks.

The challenge waiting for the Wolves is a balanced and unbeaten Don Bosco team. Senior quarterback Ty Purdy has thrown for 15 touchdowns and run for another 10 through seven games. Senior running back Myles McMahon is 51 rushing yards shy of 1,000, and junior wideout Kaiden Knaack has caught seven TDs. On defense, junior Landon Fernandez and senior Jared Thiry wreck offenses with a combined 17.5 tackles for loss. Winfield-Mount Union tries to upend one of the best in the state and become one of the last 16 standing in 8-man football starting this evening at 7.
