The City of Washington is beginning its inspections for the sidewalk inspection program. City staff will inspect sidewalks in the second quadrant and determine which sidewalk panels need to be repaired. These repairs are to make Washington a more walkable community and promote health and safety.

Quadrant Two includes the northeast area of town, north of Washington Street, and east of 2nd Avenue. Any areas that need replacement will be marked with a pink dot of survey paint. Property owners will be notified by letter as to any required repairs. If it is found to be in compliance, nothing further is needed. The property owner may repair the sidewalk by themselves or use a contractor. Repairs must be completed before July 1, 2023, and require a city permit.

All sidewalks identified as non-compliant that have not been repaired by the deadline will be repaired by a contractor chosen by the city. The city will contract the work and bill the property owner their portion. The property owner will have 30 days after receiving the bill to pay. If the bill is not paid in 30 days, the bill will be assessed to the property owner with additional fees.
