Members of the Mid-Prairie School Board met in regular session Monday, October 24. The meeting began with “Hawk Highlights,” a chance for the board to celebrate the accomplishments of students and staff in the district. This week, Chris Burnham, Melissa Stakland, Isabelle Duvall, and Demetrius Christensen from the FCS Global Cuisine Class presented some of their food with the board. Superintendent Brian Stone commended the students on their work.

“The thing that I really enjoy about it is them and the growth that they’ve displayed in their presentation skills to adults, or in this situation with the board last evening.” Stone said. “There’s nothing better than developing those communication skills that have come out of this class. They did a great job with that.”

During the work session, the board received input from building administrators as they begin to build a long-term plan for facility improvements. The board plans to use this information to prioritize building needs in the future. Plans are also set to replace the middle school gym floor by the 2023/24 school year.

The Iowa School Performance Profile, a state-wide grading system on student performance, was presented. The high school and middle school received “commendable” ratings. The elementary schools and virtual academy were rated “acceptable”. The board will use this information to continue to grow student performance.

The Mid-Prairie Board of Education’s next meeting will be held Monday, November 14 at 6:15 p.m. in the school’s Central Office Community Room.
