On Thursday, October 27, Winfield-Mount Union Community School District plans to run a PreK-12 evacuation practice. Students and staff plan to evacuate the building and walk to their emergency rally destinations.

The goals of the training are to improve and evaluate the emergency operations plan, while ensuring the safety of all students and staff. The District aims to give everyone involved an opportunity to develop effective skills in the event of a real emergency.

Emergencies requiring an evacuation include gas leaks, bomb threats, and active shooters. However, there will be no simulated shooter or scenes intended to scare students. Instead, a verbal announcement will run over the intercom to alert those in the building.

It is suggested that students bring comfortable shoes and clothing, especially if cold or rainy weather is in the forecast. A hoodie or jacket is recommended as well.

Any questions on the training can be directed to the W-MU administration team at 319-257-7701.
