With the weekend approaching, it could be the final opportunity for Iowans to enjoy the fall scenery.

Northeast Iowa’s fall color season is well past its peak. With the exception of Oak trees, most leaves have fallen due to recent cold temperatures and high winds.

Central Iowa’s peak is over as well, but some colors remain. Hard frosts last week have drained much of the color. Some Oaks are still showing purple, red and green, with Maples adding yellows and reds.

Southeast Iowa’s landscape continues to show plenty of yellow. Maple, Sumac, and Poison Ivy are showing red. As winds start to strip trees in the area, expect good colors for the next week.
