The Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team is back under the playoff lights tonight in Sigourney when they welcome the Mediapolis Bulldogs to the Snake Pit for the second round of the Class 1A playoffs. SK comes into the contest with a 7-2 overall record. The Cobras were a winner in last week’s playoff opener 31-0 over Sumner-Fredericksburg behind 395 total yards, 245 on the ground. Cole Clarahan had 147 yards and two rushing scores, Isaac Bruns had a rushing touchdown, and Sawyer Stout threw a score to Cole Kindred. Reid Molyneux, Jake Moore and Jack Clarahan all had five tackles with Kindred, Moore and Cole Clarhan picking off passes and Carter McCoid recovering a fumble to preserve the shut out. On the season, the Cobras score 37 points per game and give up 14, posting 355 yards each night, 294 on the ground. Individual SK leaders include Cole Clarahan with 1,115 yards on the ground with 170 carries and 19 touchdowns. Stout is 24 of 41 in the pass game for 501 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions. His favorite receiver is Kindred with 10 catches for 171 yards and four scores. Jack Clarahan has 46 tackles and Moore three interceptions to lead the Cobra defense.

Mediapolis is 8-1 on the year. They finished second place in Class 1A District 5 behind West Branch. The Bulldogs crushed Central Decatur in the first round 52-7, rolling up 517 total yards, 451 on the ground. For the season, Mediapolis is averaging 36 points per game and giving up 11 with 344 yards of offense each night, 290 on the ground. MEPO is led individually by Anthony Isley with 165 carries for 1,341 yards and 18 touchdowns. Through the air, Ben Egan is 28 of 74 for 486 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions. His favorite target is Cole Lipper with 10 catches for 204 yards and five touchdowns. Chett Mohr has 78 and a half tackles, Egan three fumble recoveries, and Jackson Hutcheson five picks to lead the Bulldog defense. SK won the last meeting between these two schools in 2020 by a 31-14 score. Mediapolis had won the previous four. The winner advances to the 1A quarterfinals next week. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. at the Snake Pit at Sigourney High School.
