On Thursday, October 20, Parkview Home in Wayland was the recipient of a Quality Dining and Nutrition Services Award. The award is voted on by the residents several times throughout the year, and is a nod to the home’s willingness to adapt menu options based on resident feedback. Ron Semler is the Director of Parkview Home, and he credits the staff with this achievement.
“I think it’s a combination of many folks, including the Certified Dietary Manager and also the Dietitian who are the most reactionary to the needs or the indications from the residents.” Semler stated. “They take information that they get from the residents and respond if there is a need to respond. We tend to look for all the likes and dislikes of everybody and try to put together a menu that is approved by the state that will meet guidelines, but also meet the dietary preferences of our residents.”
Semler added that while they are pleased with the award, there is still a need for additional help at the home overall. “I need nursing staff. Most nursing homes in Iowa are suffering from nursing shortages.”
While most nursing homes in Iowa run at around 70% occupancy, Parkview Home has maintained 90% occupancy through the pandemic. For more information on hiring opportunities, contact Parkview Home at 319-256-3525.
