The 2022 cross country season wrapped up last weekend at the State Cross Country meets in Fort Dodge. Friday’s action saw area 1A and 2A runners compete, with 3A athletes on Saturday.

The Mid-Prairie girls took home fifth place as a team with a score of 157. The 2A field was led by Danielle Hostetler, with a time of 18:41. This was Danielle’s third consecutive individual title, and the seventh in a row for a Hostetler sister. Other Golden Hawk girls finishers included Abby Fleming 16th, Phoebe Shetler 44th, Dessa Poll 82nd, Greta Sieren 87th, Tabitha Evans 106th, and Amara Jones 110th.

The Golden Hawk boys team finished 13th with a score of 279. Their top runner was Emmett Schwartzentruber, who finished 20th with a time of 17:05. The Mid-Prairie boys team also included Preston Yutzy 41st, Blake Creed 84th, Jesse Stultz 110th, Daniel Rodgers 114th, Nathan Wallington 115th, and Jordan Stock 123rd.

The Washington Demon girls took sixth as a team in the 3A meet, led by freshman Iris Dahl. Dahl ran a personal-best time of 19:20 to earn a seventh-place medal. Other Washington finishers included Quincy Griffis 50th, Alyvia Anderson 68th, Lauren Horak 74th, Angeline Anderson 88th, Isabella Lujan 101st, and Kendall Hinrichsen 105th.

The Demon boys had two runners compete last weekend. Micah Rees’s 13th-place finish with a time of 16:26 earned him a medal. Tyler Alderton finished 85th, with his time of 17:45.

In 1A, Kohlby Newsom of Winfield-Mt. Union finished 43rd in the boys meet with a time of 17:36, while Columbus’s Damien Vergara took home 49th place with a time of 17:39, both personal-best’s. In the 1A girls competition, Lone Tree’s Vivian Zaruba finished 103rd, with a time of 22:19.
