In court documents disclosed by the prosecution on Tuesday, November 1, a potential motive has been revealed regarding the murder of Fairfield teacher, Nohema Graber, last year.

The documents state that one of the defendants, 17-year-old Willard Miller, met with Graber on November 2 of last year to discuss a poor grade in her Spanish class. This grade is the first alleged motive behind the murder.

Miller and fellow Fairfield student, Jeremy Goodale, also 17, are believed to have committed the murder later that day at Chatauqua Park in Fairfield. Exactly one year later, two matters are scheduled for court, as laid out by Jefferson County Attorney, Chauncey Moulding.

“The first matter is a motion for a Franks Hearing that was filed by the defense, which is challenging some of the assertions that are made in the sworn affidavit that was applied for for search warrants of the defendant’s home, computer, cell phone, and other digital records.” Moulding stated. “The other matter before the court is the motion to suppress evidence. That is predicated a lot on the evidence that was gained from search warrants.”

The defense claims that the warrants for Miller’s home were issued illegally, and are asking the court to invalidate the evidence received from said warrants. Goodale and Miller are being tried as adults, with individual trials scheduled for December 5 and March 20, respectively.
