Only eight teams remain in the Iowa high school football 1A playoffs, and Sigourney-Keota earned their spot with an overtime thriller against the Mediapolis Bulldogs last Friday. The Cobras were victorious in a 20-14 effort, advancing to the quarterfinals for the third consecutive season.
The district-champion Cobras now have a tall task when they travel to Van Meter to face a new Bulldog opponent. Second-ranked Van Meter has cruised through the playoffs so far, posting two consecutive shutouts in the opening rounds.
The 8-2 Cobras are not shying away from this challenge, looking for their ninth win to send them back to the UNI-Dome for the second time in three years. Kickoff between the Cobras and Bulldogs is scheduled for Friday night at 7.
