On Wednesday, November 9, the Sigourney School Board met in regular session. The meeting began with a cycle review of board committee reports and board policy.

The board met with the Facility Advisory Committee to prioritize general facility improvements within the district. Specific plans for improvements will be made at a later date. Student learning requirements were discussed in relation to future-ready work, to ensure that students are obtaining the necessary skills for a career.

Administration reports were read, and at the junior high level, a girls wrestling program has been put into place that is set to begin in January, with approval to post a coaching position. A bid was also approved for a Blue Bird bus that is scheduled to be in use by the next school year.

Enrollment was discussed, and according to Superintendent Kevin Hatfield, “our enrollment is up 13.7, so our Business Director helped us put together our SBRC request for supplemental waiting. The actual funding comes next year, but we went through that process and the board approved that as well.”

The regular session was followed by the required annual meeting, where President Melissa Bird and Vice President Steven Ceeley were both re-elected. The Sigourney School Board is scheduled to hold their next meeting on Wednesday, December 14 at 6 p.m. at the Junior Senior High School Media Center.
