The Sigourney-Keota Cobras reminded the rest of southeast Iowa why they’ve been one of the most consistently excellent high school football teams in the area this season. Even after starting the 2022 campaign 0-2, Sigourney-Keota still went on to win a Class 1A District 6 championship and reach the state quarterfinals with eight straight wins. Only second-ranked Van Meter stopped the Cobras’ winning ways, and in recognition of their efforts, coaches were impressed enough to vote 19 SK players to all-district honors.

Sigourney-Keota gave up just over 16 points per game this year. And, just like they did all season, the Cobra defense leads the way with six first-team selections. Senior linebacker Jack Clarahan was named the District 6 Defensive Most Valuable Player after piling up a team-high 67-and-a-half tackles, including seven tackles for loss. Starting linebackers Jake Moore and Reid Molyneux join Clarahan on the first team. Molyneux had 55.5 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Moore came up with a team-high three interceptions. Senior Karson Weber led SK with seven tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks and is a first-team defensive lineman, while juniors Cole Kindred and Kale Clarahan had two picks each and make the first team as defensive backs.

On offense, running back Cole Clarahan is recognized for his big season running the ball with a first-team nod. The SK senior rushed for just under 1,200 yards and 21 touchdowns. Three of his offensive lineman, juniors Dylan Renner, Evan Vittetoe and Conner Strand, also receive first-team honors after they paved the way for 257 run yards a game for the Cobras.

Second-team honors for Sigourney-Keota go to sophomore running back Isaac Bruns; junior quarterback Sawyer Stout; senior tight end Clay Morse; senior defensive back Aidan Anderson; and sophomore kicker/punter Caden Clarahan. Honorable mentions are given to junior offensive lineman Brock Alderson and junior Aiden McGuire and senior Carter McCoid on the D-line.
