The Highland School Board met in regular session on Monday, November 14. At the start of the meeting, Board President Nate Robinson was re-elected and Monica Jepson was newly elected as Vice President.
During the consent agenda portion of the meeting a fundraiser for the basketball program was approved. They will be selling hats to raise money for the team this season.
Staff from Hill Bank met with the board to present them with a check for over $1,400 as part of their quarterly Classroom Cash Program. The board was also visited by Gina Trower and Highland FFA students to recap their trip to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
In the administration reports, the high school highlighted their musical performances earlier this month. Varsity sports have begun practices for winter seasons, and games for junior high athletics are underway. At the elementary level, the playground project has been completed. Superintendent Ken Crawford proudly announced “both sides of our elementary have new playgrounds within a year old of each other, making that area look super nice.”
Crawford wrapped up the reports adding that several board members will be attending the Iowa School Board Association Convention later this week, and plans to break ground on the $1.1 million waste water project are scheduled for next week at the secondary building.
The Highland Community School Board of Education’s next meeting will be held on Monday, December 12 at 5 p.m. in the High School Board Room.
