The WACO Warriors played true to their name last Wednesday, edging out the Newell-Fonda Mustangs in the 8-man football state semifinals. A 29-22 victory for WACO earned them a school-record 13th win. Despite the magical ride so far, the Warriors have their focus on the state championship game Thursday morning.
Standing in their way are the top-ranked Remsen- St. Mary’s Hawks, toting a perfect record of their own. The Hawks have cruised through the playoffs, defeating each of their opponents by at least three touchdowns.
It is a tall task for WACO, who is up for the challenge. A win would mean the first state championship in program history. Once again, WACO Schools will be out of session on game day, giving students and staff a chance to witness their quest for a title.
KCII will be broadcasting the game on all platforms beginning Thursday morning at 9 with the pregame, and kickoff between the Warriors and Hawks at 9:30 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
