The WACO Warriors embark on a new season of high school girls’ wrestling with a potential to both improve and remain just as successful. WACO returns three wrestlers who qualified for state last year, but all three finished with records below .500 and will look to do better this season.
Despite having just a 7-17 record, Bralyyn Wagler was still able to claim a medal by finishing eighth at 220 pounds at the IWCOA Championships. Wagler will be moving up a weight class to 235 lbs this season. Fellow senior Heaven Steege is back and will look for a return trip to state at 125 after going 10-11. Sophomore Rylee Rice is also back and looking to build on a debut season where she went 5-9 but still qualified for state at 120.
Also wrestling for the Warriors is senior Grace Fort at 235 lbs and sophomores Elyssa Graber and Emma Shebshack at 105 and 190, respectively. Newcomer Destiny Boone will be in the 190-lbs weight class as well in her freshman season. WACO will start a new year of girls’ wrestling today when they participate in a tournament at BGM in Brooklyn.
