It’s an all-KCII girls basketball battle in Junction tonight when the Hillcrest Academy Ravens pay a visit to the Columbus Wildcats. Hillcrest comes into the night 0-1, following a 45-30 loss at Tri-County on Friday. The Ravens put two in double figures with Malia Yoder and Claire Withrow each posting a dozen points, but Hillcrest wasn’t able to overcome 34 turnovers and a -6 margin on the glass.

This is the season opener for Columbus. Head coach Kasey Keltner and the girls were 3-19 overall last year, 2-14 in the Superconference. The Wildcats have had one scrimmage at Tipton, last Friday, to get ready for tonight. A year ago, they averaged 29 points per game and gave up 51, shooting 28% from the floor, 18% from three point range and 46% at the line to go with 24 rebounds, eight assists, nine steals and 21 turnovers. The Wildcats lost Libby White and Maggie Sanchez to graduation last year, and will also be without Lily Coil this season due to injury. Coil led the ‘Cats a year ago with nine points per game and three steals. White was leader on the glass with six boards per night. Sera Vela does return after a junior season that saw her lead the team with three assists per game while posting eight points. Columbus has won 15 of the last 24 in the series with the Ravens, but the two teams have split their last six. Columbus swept the series last year with 49-33 and 41-33 wins. Action starts tonight at 6p.m. in Columbus Junction.
