The Lone Tree Lions will be trying to make some strides in boys’ basketball this season with some new faces leading the way. Head coach Tom Squiers will need to replace four starters who led Lone Tree in scoring, even as the Lions went 7-17 last season.

Two seniors will be expected to take the lead for Lone Tree in Drew Gaulley and Mitchell Koedam. Gauley averaged almost four points and two assists per game last season, while Koedam owned the post with four points and five rebounds per contest. Squiers tells KCII Sports the seniors will need to lead an offensive uptick that complements the Lions’ normally-solid defense.

“I told them last year that, defensively, I thought we were really good,” Squiers says. “We played a lot of games where we held the opponent under 50 [points], but on the other end of the floor we just couldn’t score. Our offensive average last year was in the low 40s, so offensively we just have to get better.”

Lone Tree won three games in the Super Conference North. The Lions will open a new season by hosting Belle Plaine Monday evening.
