Last week, the Washington County Riverboat Foundation (WCRF) held their benefit event at the Riverside Casino to hand out spring and fall grants to deserving organizations.

Along with Superintendent Brian Stone and Activities Director Tyler Hotz, several Mid-Prairie High School baseball players, coaches, and parents were on hand to receive a grant worth $159,040. It was the third largest fall grant given out that evening, and will go towards their “Field of Dreams” project.

“Specifically, that money is going to go more towards restoring some of the seating we have behind our home plate area,” Hotz said. “We are going to be able to add more seating, we are going to add a press box that’s going to provide storage, a place for our players to change, and upstairs more space for radio announcers.

When asked what the grant means for the program, Hotz believes the future is bright, adding, “It’s a huge benefit to our program. When this whole project is done, I feel pretty confident we are going to have one of the best all-natural grass fields in the state.” Mid-Prairie hopes to have most renovations completed by the spring before the season starts.

WCRF is a non-profit organization established in 2004. They have donated over $3 million dollars this year alone, including 17 spring grants, 14 fall grants, and 8 municipal grants.
