Despite winning just four games a season ago, the Columbus Wildcat boys’ basketball team is optimistic about their chances as they begin a new season tonight. Columbus graduates only two seniors from last year’s roster and brings back the bulk of their starting lineup. That includes senior Grant Watson, who led the Wildcats by averaging just shy of 10 points per game last season and was the team’s top three-point shooter. On the low block, junior Tim Hills is developing into a force to be reckoned with, putting up eight-and-a-half points, five rebounds and one blocked shot a game a season ago. Seniors Jeff Hoback, Oscar Alcala and Daniel Martinez also return after combining to average almost 12 points and five steals per contest as juniors. Columbus got all four of their wins in conference play last season. The Wildcats welcome in West Liberty this evening starting around 7:30 to tip off a new campaign.
