On Thursday, November 24 at approximately 8:10 p.m. the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a police pursuit southbound from Watkins. Benton County Sheriff’s Office had initiated the pursuit of a black Chevrolet pickup in connection to a criminal incident that occurred in their county.

The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office joined in the chase as it led into downtown Amana on 220th Trail. At this time, the driver, 27-year-old Zachary Poulson of Norway, Iowa, lost control of the vehicle. The pickup struck the concrete steps leading up to the sidewalk near the Ronneburg Restaurant. The street fence and a ground-mounted electrical transformer were hit as well, leading to a loss of power for several properties in the area.

After his vehicle came to a stop, Poulson attempted to flee on foot. Officers conducted a search of the area and located him attempting to hide in a ditch along 220th Trail between Amana and East Amana.

Poulson was taken into custody without further incident and turned over to Benton County authorities. Poulson was last being held in the Benton County Jail on several criminal charges. He will also face charges in Iowa County. An estimation of damages is expected to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
