The sprint to the holidays started Saturday with Main Street Washington’s SNOW Blitz slate of events. The day started on the Washington Square with the Jingle Bell 5K Fun Run, with the race beginning at 9. Participants chose between a one-mile walk around the square or a 5K through downtown and Sunset Park. Breakfast with Santa was held at the Washington United Presbyterian Church. Pancakes with Santa were provided by the Washington Lions Club. The Reason for the Season Christmas concert was at 1 p.m. At the Washington High School Auditorium. The Washington Public Library was host to this year’s live radio Christmas Play “Holiday Affair.” The radio play “Holiday Affair ” is available for free on our on-demand section of KCIIradio.com. Following the radio play was the downtown lighting ceremony at 6 p.m as Santa Claus took the stage at the Washington Square band shell to turn on the downtown lights and officially welcome in the Christmas season. The night finished with the holiday lighted parade around the Washington Square after the ceremony. It was also Small Business Saturday, with many local businesses participating.
