The Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association’s State Dance Championships kick off today, with teams and individuals competing from throughout the state. Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines will host the team championships through Friday.

Several area teams hit the floor on November 30, kicking off with Lone Tree in the Class 1 Lyrical competition. WACO’s only team competing follows in Pom Class 2. Lone Tree rounds out Wednesday’s morning performances with Pom Class 2 and Jazz Class 1.

Wapello begins the afternoon dances with Contemporary Class 1. The Highland team follows them in the same competition. Wapello finishes their day with Pom Class 3 and Novelty Class 1, with the novelty performance held in HyVee Hall B.  

Thursday, December 1 will see three Mid-Prairie dance performances throughout the day. They will be featured in Jazz Class 4 at 8:33 a.m. Hip Hop Class 4 at 2:35 p.m. and Pom Class 8 at 7:48 p.m.

Teams from Fairfield and Mount Pleasant perform Friday as well. Fairfield’s afternoon competitions include Pom Class 9 at 2:44 and Jazz Class 4 at 4:17. Mount Pleasant will dance in Pom Class 10 at 7:15 p.m.

Mount Pleasant is the lone area school competing on Friday, December 2, wrapping things up with Jazz Class 6 at 4:46 p.m.
