The Lone Tree Lion girls’ basketball team dominated for their second win of the season Monday night, while the boys came up just short against Belle Plaine. In the girls’ game, Lone Tree knocked off Belle Plaine 50-31, but the Lions were only up 5-4 in a slugfest first quarter. Lone Tree would catch fire on offense in the second period, pushing the lead to 23-12 at halftime and pulling away from there. Senior guard Riley Krueger knocked down four three-pointers and finished with a team-high 14 points. Krueger also chipped in four assists and three steals, while freshman Finley Jacque did a little bit of everything with 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Sophomore Rylee Shield added eight points and six boards as the Lions improved to 2-2.

In the boys’ game, Lone Tree opened their season with a 51-44 loss to the Belle Plaine Plainsmen. The Lions started fast by taking a 13-4 first-quarter advantage and were still up 11 at halftime, but the game would be flipped from there. Lone Tree’s lead was cut to two going into the fourth quarter before giving it away down the stretch. Lions senior Drew Gauley hit a pair of triples and had team highs of 12 points and three assists, while senior Tyce Ault put up 10 points and eight rebounds.
